Apple Sludge Splat

500D_1733500D_1730It 500D_1731had all looked so easy.  The recipe for the scrumpy said chop up some ginger,  squeeze four lemons (I had two and a half, but hey, who’s counting?).  Then add a kilo of sugar.  Then add the strained apple juice to the mixture.  I had carefully sterilised a fruit strainer (for making jam) and this was the mixture, ready to go and looking good.  I had carefully sterilised two jugs and another tub to move things in to as well.  I looked very organised when I got to the filtering stage, but as you can see, it all went a little pear shaped.  Thankfully my wife ran to the rescue and I mopped the floor afterwards with a slightly embarrassed expression on my face.

(It was my intention to taste the blummin’ stuff at some point before putting it away to ferment, but I was in such high dudgeon that I forgot.  I’ll just be patient…)

Adding Squeezelite to SqueezboxServer on Rpi

Our squeezebox classic has died for as yet unidentified reasons.  I have already rebuilt it once using my original post as a guide after my dodgy self made RPi case rebooted it once too often.

To get spotify on my RPi (armel) version I used this with some tweaks:

  • I had to download  the armel version of the binary

  • wget http://squeezelite.googlecode.com/files/squeezelite-armv6hf

  •  I think that there is a bug in the start/stop script – I had to remove the ” — $DAEMON” line from the start command for some reason before it would work.

Quince – the next project?

Wine

I am a bit short of bubblers and demijohns now until the beer has been bottled.  What is the next project?  Well, we have a very productive quince tree in the garden.  My wife has made some excellent quince cheese with some of them but there are still quite a few left.  I’ll do my research and be ready when the beer is done.
