Zinfandel Update

Syphoned off to a bucket to continue fermentation. I had major problems with the brew controller.  It looks like one of the soldering joints had gone dry, and took about an hour and a half to work out and fix.

This just gets left for another ten days or so.

More rosé, Zinfandel Blush

We like our home made rosé, but the firm that we were using (Sadlers) has gone bust. May and Brett had no rosé available, so it was off to for supplies. We selected California Connoisseur Zinfandel Blush.  My first kit (and the best white I made I believe) was California so definitely worth a second go.

My brew controller got an “upgrade”. In the process I borked the two temperature sensors, so after about 5 hours work (out came the soldering iron to fix it and make the “upgrade” more permanent) I had it doing its job again.  The speech marks are because the upgrade is not so successful. It is supposed to be a microphone that hears and counts bubbles, but I just can’t quite get it working properly.  Work in progress I think.

100d/100h update

I have been pressing on with this.  But got very tired by the third Friday and “counted” my full day at work, which is a bit of a cheat.  Discretion is the better part of valour I guess.  I made up for it with a long bike ride on the Saturday.

I think yesterday was day 21?

Mild Ale Bottling

2015-10-12 10.29.46The gravity of the ale after two weeks at 18 degrees suggests an alcohol content of 1.3%, which is ridiculous.  I was very suspicious of the OG reading, and the fermentation was pretty vigorous at the start, so I am assuming incompenence and bottling. The proof will be in the drinking.

The beer needs to mature for at least three weeks before drinking, but I used spray malt, so it should continue to improve for months after that.

Alcohol content seems ridiculous, but that OG was very suspicious

Off to May and Brett today to pick up another wine kit and probably a new Blue Boar kit together with a new carboy.

100d/100h d15

Well, I have managed a 15th straight day of doing an hour of exercise, but today was a bit of a bomb. I cycled for 30 minutes on my turbo but my heart was not in it and I will have to go for a short walk later if I am really going to complete the full hour.

I think I should probably have a break from it all, but an hour a day seems so little, especially if I walk, that I want to keep it up.
