{"id":430,"date":"2013-11-15T21:45:25","date_gmt":"2013-11-15T21:45:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thomas.w-p.me.uk\/blog\/?p=430"},"modified":"2013-11-16T21:41:08","modified_gmt":"2013-11-16T21:41:08","slug":"lirc-setup-on-rpi-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thomas.w-p.me.uk\/blog\/2013\/11\/lirc-setup-on-rpi-2\/","title":{"rendered":"LIRC setup on RPi #2"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After, much MUCH frustration in failing to get LIRC to recognise my remote on my spare RPi, I set it up fresh on the actual RPizeBox, just to see what happened.\u00a0 The steps were <a href=\"http:\/\/alexba.in\/blog\/2013\/01\/06\/setting-up-lirc-on-the-raspberrypi\/\">something like those described on alexba.in<\/a> but I am copying them here.\u00a0 Spot the minor change.\u00a0 Thanks alexba.in!<\/p>\n<pre>sudo apt-get install lirc<\/pre>\n<p>Add this to \/etc\/modules file:<\/p>\n<pre>lirc_dev\nlirc_rpi gpio_in_pin=25<\/pre>\n<p>Change \/etc\/lirc\/hardware.conf file to:<\/p>\n<pre>########################################################\n # \/etc\/lirc\/hardware.conf\n #\n # Arguments which will be used when launching lircd\n LIRCD_ARGS=\"--uinput\"\n # Don't start lircmd even if there seems to be a good config file\n # START_LIRCMD=false\n # Don't start irexec, even if a good config file seems to exist.\n # START_IREXEC=false\n # Try to load appropriate kernel modules\n LOAD_MODULES=true\n # Run \"lircd --driver=help\" for a list of supported drivers.\n DRIVER=\"default\"\n # usually \/dev\/lirc0 is the correct setting for systems using udev\n DEVICE=\"\/dev\/lirc0\"\n MODULES=\"lirc_rpi\"\n # Default configuration files for your hardware if any\n LIRCD_CONF=\"\"\n LIRCMD_CONF=\"\"\n ########################################################<\/pre>\n<p>Restart lircd so it picks up these changes:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo \/etc\/init.d\/lirc stop\nsudo \/etc\/init.d\/lirc start<\/pre>\n<p>It worked immediately.\u00a0 Here are the remote codes appearing.<\/p>\n<pre>pi@hood ~ $ sudo irw\n0000000000001826 00 0\/10 Sony_RMT-CS33AD\n0000000000001826 01 0\/10 Sony_RMT-CS33AD\n0000000000001826 02 0\/10 Sony_RMT-CS33AD\n0000000000001826 03 0\/10 Sony_RMT-CS33AD\n0000000000001826 04 0\/10 Sony_RMT-CS33AD\n0000000000001826 05 0\/10 Sony_RMT-CS33AD\n0000000000001826 06 0\/10 Sony_RMT-CS33AD\n0000000000001826 07 0\/10 Sony_RMT-CS33AD\n0000000000001826 08 0\/10 Sony_RMT-CS33AD\n0000000000007026 00 08 Sony_RMT-CS33AD\n0000000000007026 01 08 Sony_RMT-CS33AD\n0000000000007026 02 08 Sony_RMT-CS33AD<\/pre>\n<p>I set up pylirc the easy way this time!<\/p>\n<pre>sudo apt-get install python-pip\nsudo pip install pylirc2<\/pre>\n<p>Easy.<\/p>\n<p>I then downloaded the <a href=\"http:\/\/bazaar.launchpad.net\/~rockstar\/pylirc2\/trunk\/view\/head:\/pylirc_test.py\"><strong>pylirc_test.py<\/strong><\/a> and its <a href=\"http:\/\/bazaar.launchpad.net\/~rockstar\/pylirc2\/trunk\/view\/head:\/conf\"><strong>conf<\/strong> <\/a>file as suggested in the <a href=\"http:\/\/thevoiceofreasonbymo.blogspot.ca\/2013\/07\/pylirc-made-easy.html\">Voice of Reason<\/a> and optimistically ran it.\u00a0 And nothing happened at all, which was very disappointing indeed.\u00a0 But I am one step closer I guess.\u00a0 Maddening that it didn&#8217;t work with the other RPi.<\/p>\n<p>I then found t<a href=\"http:\/\/devblogs.pculture.org\/devblogs\/wguaraldi\/2009\/03\/26\/notes-for-remote-control-support-for-mirofullscreen-on-linux\/#comments\">his glorious page from 2009 by Will Miro<\/a>.\u00a0 It helped me make a config file that worked and finally I got the test page responding.\u00a0 I think that is enough for now.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>After, much MUCH frustration in failing to get LIRC to recognise my remote on my spare RPi, I set it up fresh on the actual RPizeBox, just to see what happened.\u00a0 The steps were something like those described on alexba.in but I am copying them here.\u00a0 Spot the minor change.\u00a0 Thanks alexba.in!
